TEATRO - The Beauty of Italian Theatre - Commedia dell'arte
The Royal Opera House of Covent Garden, London, is celebrating their 2018 season of theatre performances from around the world, starting with the theme “Tetro - The Beauty of Italian Theatre”. On the opening night, were a Commedia dell’arte play was performed, a special box pack was presented guest VIPs as a visual memento pack.
This fictional scenario was the brief for an assessment of the Interactive Design Institute of the University of Hertfordshire.
I created a wooden box, with the dimensions 40 x 25 x 5 cm, that contains not only information about the Royal Theater, Commedia dell’arte in general and the different main characters, but also a hand-made collectors set of Commedia dell’arte masks, to be specific (from top to bottom) Pantalone, Il Dottore, Brighella, Arlecchino and Zanni.
The wooden box with the drawer can later be used as storage for jewellery and similar.
I realized the assignment with paper cut illustrations on dutch metal backgrounds to convey the slogan of the Royal Opera House "Excellence without Arrogance".
The Royal Opera House engages for a few years with new technologies like Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality.
Therefore the Aurasma App was offered the guest VIPs to get a deeper insight into Commedia dell’arte.
As the trigger image has to be full of contrast, values, details and tones, I had to break the visual unity.
